Lil Wayne - Believe Me ft Drake

With a tweet from Kobe Bryant and a Instagram post from Floyd Mayweather "Carter Season" was said to have officially begun. However, in my opinion it started back in 2013 when Wayne apologize to his fans and promised to work harder once he noticed that his recent projects weren't up for awards. He has since seemed to stick with that sentiment if his verses on "Loyal" (showcasing his classic charm) and "Senile" (his best verse in years) are any indicators. 

One thing that has remained constant over the last few years is that Wayne and Drake are a deadly duo, everything they touch is music gold, and "Believe Me" is no different. Even with Wayne's verses lacking over the last couple of years, he always seemed to rise to the occasion when Drake was featured, this is why even though I'm happy to hear Wayne sounding awake and rejuvenated again I'm hesitant to crown him as officially back. This is a great start however for an artist who has seemingly staked his whole legacy on this last album as he says, Wayne says believe me but I'll have to wait until Carter Season really begins and that is when I can listen to Tha Carter V itself.

Young Thug - Eww

Fresh off the release of Young Thugga Mane La Flare his collaborative project with Gucci Mane, Young Thug is back with another single entitled "Eww" linking back up with "Danny Glover" co-producer Southside of 808 Mafia. I've already stated how awesome it is to see Wayne's influence on Thug not only as an artist but also in how he releases music, very similar to how back in the day you'd get a new Wayne track from some random DJ or just self leaked material. Also, according to MTV the album version of this track will feature a Drake verse hopefully we'll get that sooner than later but if not it's just another thing to look forward to for Thug's debut album tentatively titled Tha Carter VI.

Drake - All Me ft 2 Chainz & Big Sean

Year after year Drake seems to drop a track that will become the summer's anthem. 2010 it was "Miss Me", 2011 "The Motto" and after taking 2012 off sans guest features, he is back with "All Me" a boastful track over some excellent production from Key Wane. Drake who proclaims himself as the light skin Keith Sweat (not sure if that is good or bad) tabs 2 Chainz who starts the track off right with a trademark verse and Big Sean drops which might just be his best verse this year. One thing that is interesting though is that Drake's verse seems to be taking shots at G.O.O.D. or maybe possibly Chris Brown, if the former is true that would make Sean's appearance a bit surprising. Either way it's another quality track from Drake, who's upcoming album Nothing Was The Same seems to be looking like it might be a career best.

Fresh off his Grammy win for Best Rap Album, Drake released the visuals for his lead single "Started From The Bottom" from his upcoming album Nothing Was The Same.

After taking the entire year of 2012 off (aside from features), Drake is back with his first single from his upcoming album. Aptly named "Started From The Bottom" it's a bit more dark sound then we're usually here from Drake's lead singles due in part to producer Mike Zombie as opposed to Drizzy's norm Boi-1da and 40. My only compliant is that it's too short, wish it was a minute or two longer but either way the shit bangs. It's always good to hear a new Drake record and I'm glad it's that time of the year again.

Sample Sunday: Drake + Earth, Wind & Fire

Just a little background information, the sample series will take place either on Saturday or Sunday from now on. I'll try to do it every week, but more than likely it'll be every two.



For the first entry in the series I chose this Drake song 'Beautiful Music' because to me it's still one of, if not his best verse, and it shows just how hungry he was when he first entered the game. Also, and mostly importantly the sample which is 'Can't Find Love' by the legendary Earth, Wind & Fire. I first came across this song while listening to the radio, and I heard the melody but I couldn't exactly remember where from until the chorus kicked in, then I connected the two. Not to much else I have to say other than enjoy!

The unofficial video for Drake's Practice is something else, featuring model Kyra Chaos whom I've never seen nor heard of but wished I did sooner. Drizzy is also taking video submissions, so if any ladies out there wanna try to do it better, which I doubt, hit up OVO.

Although this song gets a bad rap for the basic lyrics and jerking type beat, I actually enjoy it. You gotta take it as it was intended to be catchy and commercial, which it fits perfectly. YM is gonna make lots of money off of this. Now the video on the other hand is meh, Tyga wasn't needed and Wayne and Drake need to stop dressing themselves, seriously.

Sidenote: Drake has to have a Nike sponsorship, in this and Headlines he was wearing baseball gloves, YOLO I guess....

My favorite of the songs Drake released at OVO recently, with this one Drizzy and Rozay want girls to tattoo their name so they know it's real. The production is simplistic but it works well with Drake and Ross' lyrics, who themselves don't disappoint.

Here's the track where Weezy responds to Jay-Z's "you got baby money" diss, and I won't go into Wayne's "diss" just know that this so-called beef doesn't need to even happen. It was cool back when it first happened with the whole "Best Rapper Alive since the best rapper retired" but now? Ehhhh.

Lil Wayne - She Will ft Drake

The next single from Tha Carter IV dropped today at noon, featuring fellow Young Money crew member Drake. While it's a nice track, I do actually like this song, it is definitely what you would expect from the title. I feel as if I have heard this song before, just under a different name. That being said check it out, in the mean while Tha Carter IV drops August 29th.

Update: The supposedly original version featuring Ross was "leaked" today by DJ Scream, but my guess is it will now be a remix. Here it is.
